Shengjing Hospital operates four campuses—Nanhu, Huaxiang, Shenbei, and Kechuang—with a combined building area exceeding 980,000 square meters and an approved capacity of 5,987 beds. The hospital employs 7,788 staff members and supports a large clinical system comprising 29 primary diagnostic specialties, 82 secondary specialties, and 209 medical and medical technology departments and wards. Annually, the hospital records approximately 5.84 million outpatient and emergency visits, 327,200 inpatient discharges, and 131,000 surgical procedures. Clinical operations are supported by an average inpatient stay of 6.35 days, reflecting substantial tertiary-care service capacity across a broad range of specialties.

Clinical Excellence & Academic Leadership

Shengjing Hospital is recognized for comprehensive multidisciplinary care, advanced medical capabilities, and specialist training. Since 2010, the hospital has introduced 16 high-tech medical programs, 419 medical technologies at international standards, 874 nationally leading technologies, and 676 regionally leading technologies. Critical care and emergency medicine represent major strengths, supported by 542 intensive care beds across specialized units including ICU, PICU, NICU, MICU, CCU, CICU, EICU, neurosurgical intensive care, neurological intensive care, and gastroenterology intensive care services. The hospital also hosts a nationally recognized neonatal emergency center, a National Advanced Stroke Center, Liaoning Provincial Chest Pain Center, Liaoning Provincial Critical Maternal Care Center, and Liaoning Provincial Critical Pediatric and Neonatal Care Center.

The hospital currently supports 26 national key clinical specialties (including construction projects), 46 Liaoning provincial key clinical specialties, and 39 specialties qualified to conduct drug clinical trials. It is also among the second group of institutions approved by the National Health Commission and the National Medical Products Administration for registered stem cell clinical research. In support of regional healthcare development, Shengjing Hospital hosts 54 provincial-level and above medical platforms, including training bases, diagnosis and treatment centers, and quality control centers.

As a major academic medical center, Shengjing Hospital undertakes the education and training of doctoral and master’s students, undergraduate medical students, resident physicians, and specialist physicians of China Medical University. The hospital serves as the largest standardized residency training base and physician assessment center in Liaoning Province, operating 29 residency training specialty bases and several nationally recognized specialty physician training programs in areas such as pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, rehabilitation medicine, respiratory and critical care medicine, geriatrics, intensive care medicine, general surgery, neonatal perinatal medicine, and pediatric anesthesiology. In 2023, the hospital ranked first in the top tier of Liaoning Province’s residency training evaluation system and successfully passed national and provincial assessments.

The hospital also maintains a minimally invasive surgical training center spanning 1,400 square meters and was among China’s first designated base hospitals for the Surgical Basic Skills Improvement Program, with approved programs in general surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics, cardiac surgery, and neurosurgery. Its pediatric advanced life support training center, accredited by the American Heart Association, was the first in northeastern China capable of delivering the organization’s full pediatric emergency curriculum. Internationally, Shengjing Hospital has established partnerships with universities and hospitals in more than 20 countries and regions, supporting academic exchange and overseas professional development.

Shengjing Hospital supports diagnosis, surgery, precision treatment, and medical research through more than 21,330 medical and scientific devices. Its advanced equipment includes tomotherapy (TOMO) systems, medical linear accelerators including TrueBeam platforms, fourth-generation da Vinci Xi robotic surgical systems, femtosecond laser refractive surgery systems, ultra-high-definition 3D laparoscopic systems, PET/MR and PET/CT systems, 3.0T MRI scanners, spectral CT, flat-panel DSA systems, 3D and 4D ultrasound platforms, integrated biochemical and immunology laboratory systems, automated blood collection systems, confocal electronic endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, gene sequencing platforms, automated biobanks, and laser confocal microscopy systems supporting clinical care, translational medicine, and scientific research.
