FAH-SYSU operates multiple campuses and regional branches, supporting large-scale multidisciplinary care across southern China. The hospital has five national key disciplines and 36 national key clinical specialties, contributing significantly to the development of clinical medicine and medical education at Sun Yat-sen University. Its collaborative clinical network includes more than 30 specialty alliances and extensive partnerships with regional hospitals, supporting referral systems, training, and healthcare access across China.
Clinical Excellence & Academic Leadership
FAH-SYSU serves as a major referral center for complex and critical diseases in southern China and has played a leading role in several clinical milestones. The hospital performed China’s first kidney transplant, the country’s first second- and third-generation in vitro fertilization procedures, Asia’s first combined liver-kidney transplant, and China’s first multi-organ transplant. It also developed and implemented ischemia-free organ transplantation, first applied clinically in liver and kidney transplantation and later extended to heart transplantation, with the technique incorporated into international transplantation guidelines in 2023. The hospital supports more than 30 provincial and national research platforms and maintains active teaching and training programs, including national residency and specialist training bases.
Medical Technology & Equipment
The hospital is equipped with advanced surgical, imaging, and radiotherapy systems to support precision diagnosis and treatment. Clinical infrastructure includes hybrid operating rooms, the da Vinci surgical robot, bronchoscopy, orthopedic and neurosurgical robotic systems, PET-MR, PET-CT, 3.0T MRI, dual-source CT, and medical linear accelerators for oncology care. Specialized treatment platforms include intensive care facilities, extracorporeal counterpulsation therapy, blood purification, and peritoneal dialysis centers, supporting advanced critical care and organ support services.
