The Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, referred to as SIAT, was established in 2006 through a tripartite partnership between the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Shenzhen Municipal Government, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It serves as a national strategic science and technology force deployed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

As Shenzhen's first national research institution, SIAT has innovatively constructed a micro-scale collaborative innovation ecosystem integrating research, education, industry, and capital, with research as its core. The institute adheres to the needs of scientific and technological innovation, efficiently advancing the integrated design and implementation of scientific research and industrial development. SIAT focuses on the four priorities of leading in science and technology and the two goals of accelerating breakthroughs and striving for excellence, committing full effort to seize technological commanding heights. The institute strategically prioritizes three main directions: medical imaging equipment and scientific instruments, synthetic biology and biological manufacturing, and integrated circuit materials and packaging, as well as several emerging directions including brain-computer interfaces and intelligent systems, brain analysis and primate models, medical devices and equipment, intelligent pharmaceuticals and health data, and advanced materials and carbon neutrality, continuously cultivating new drivers of scientific and technological advancement.

Exploring the greatest common denominator among national needs, scientific frontiers, and industrial development, SIAT actively undertakes major scientific and technological missions, produces significant research outcomes, and facilitates the transfer and transformation of major achievements, forming a robust mechanism for generating results, cultivating talent, and accumulating experience. The institute strives to connect the two points and one line path from seizing technological commanding heights to achieving transformation outcomes, thereby capturing the high ground in technological competition and future development.

Addressing major national needs, SIAT leads the establishment of the National Key Laboratory of Medical Imaging Science and Technology Systems and the National Key Laboratory of Quantitative Synthetic Biology, while participating in the establishment of the National Key Laboratory of Integrated Circuit Materials and the National Key Laboratory of Brain Cognition and Brain-Inspired Intelligence, fully committed to seizing technological commanding heights. Addressing the main economic battlefield, SIAT leads the formation of the National Innovative Medical Device Center and the National Bio-Manufacturing Industry Innovation Center, continuously driving industrial technology upgrades and iteration.

Addressing the world's scientific frontiers, SIAT leads the construction of three major basic research institutions: the Shenzhen International Innovation Institute for Advanced Electronic Materials, the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Brain Science Innovation Institute, and the Shenzhen Innovation Institute for Synthetic Biology, as well as two major scientific infrastructure facilities for synthetic biology research and brain analysis and brain simulation, all of which have been put into operation, providing strong support for the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as a technological innovation hub and a comprehensive national science center.
