FineHeart to Lead Major EU Health Initiative for Next-Gen Implantable Medical Devices
France-based FineHeart, a clinical-stage medtech company developing advanced cardiology solutions, has been selected as the lead partner of the EU’s Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) Tech4Cure initiative. This program, jointly backed by six EU member states—including France, Hungary, and Italy—aims to accelerate innovation in the implantable medical device (IMD) sector, with a focus on improving public health and industrial sovereignty in Europe.
As project lead, FineHeart will spearhead the SmartDMIA program, targeting the full value chain for next-generation active implantable medical devices (AIMDs). Key objectives include improving energy efficiency, extending device lifespan, developing interoperable systems, and aligning cybersecurity and connectivity standards with hospital infrastructures.
Drawing on its experience developing the FlowMaker®—a wireless, miniaturized cardiac flow accelerator currently in clinical trials—FineHeart will apply its R&D expertise to advance AIMD technologies. FlowMaker is the first device of its kind to synchronize with natural heart rhythms and operate without external batteries.
FineHeart CEO Arnaud Mascarell stated that the leadership role underlines the company’s innovation capacity and commitment to building a sustainable and competitive European AIMD industry. The initiative will foster collaboration between academia and industry to support medical innovation aligned with Europe’s digital and green transitions.
Tech4Cure is the second wave of France’s IPCEI Santé initiative launched in 2022, which promotes EU sovereignty in healthcare technologies. While the first wave, Med4Cure, targets essential medicines, Tech4Cure focuses on implantable devices, portable imaging solutions, and sustainable medtech design—marking a strategic step in building a resilient European health technology ecosystem.
