FUJIFILM Sonosite Launches World’s First 46MHz Transducer for Point-of-Care Ultrasound

FUJIFILM Sonosite has introduced a major innovation in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) with the launch of the UHF46-20 transducer—the first and only 46MHz ultra-high frequency transducer available for clinical use in POCUS. Designed to deliver unparalleled resolution for superficial imaging, the new probe allows clinicians to visualize structures smaller than 1mm at depths as shallow as 4mm, redefining diagnostic precision in the first two centimeters beneath the skin.

Exclusively compatible with the FUJIFILM Sonosite LX system, the UHF46-20 expands the frequency range available to point-of-care users, addressing limitations faced by conventional ultrasound systems. This breakthrough is built on FUJIFILM VisualSonics’ advanced technology and enables exceptionally detailed imaging of superficial nerves, vessels, and tissues.

The UHF46-20 offers significant clinical value across high-sensitivity applications such as neonatal intensive care and rheumatology. In NICU settings, the ability to detect submillimeter anatomy may support more accurate assessments and improve first-attempt procedural success. In rheumatology, the probe’s resolution can enhance visualization of early-stage joint conditions like synovitis or crystal deposits—potentially improving diagnostic speed and treatment outcomes.

FUJIFILM Sonosite’s President and CEO, Richard Fabian, emphasized the company’s commitment to solving real-world clinical challenges by delivering tools that enhance both diagnostic confidence and procedural accuracy. The UHF46-20 is a strategic step forward in expanding the boundaries of point-of-care imaging.
