Accuray Receives CE Mark for Accuray Helix™ Helical Radiation Delivery System

Accuray has received CE Mark approval for Accuray Helix™, a CT-guided helical radiation delivery system designed for high performance and high throughput. The new system is targeted at emerging markets where access to advanced cancer care, including radiotherapy, is typically limited to urban areas and the availability of linear accelerators per million population is well below World Health Organization recommended guidelines.
Radiotherapy is a fundamental component of cancer treatment and can be used to treat localised, recurrent or metastatic cancer. An estimated 50 percent of people with cancer would benefit from radiotherapy, either as the sole treatment option or in combination with other modalities such as surgery, chemotherapy or immunotherapy.
Accuray Helix provides a solution for clinical teams who need short treatment times and cost-effectiveness to establish a treatment pathway for patients in non-urban communities who previously had limited options. Accuray Helix delivers precise, targeted radiation treatments – an important option for the routine cases clinical teams see every day in their practices, including breast, cervical, head and neck, gastrointestinal, lung and prostate cancers. The system’s flexibility and versatility are designed to drive improvements in personalisation and patient care, while enabling more patients to be treated each day, increasing productivity for clinics and enabling them to efficiently manage the growing demand for cancer treatment.
