Medical Robotics Developer Ronovo Surgical Closes RMB 200 Million Pre-B+ Financing

Shanghai-based Ronovo Surgical closes RMB 200 million ($27.4 million) Pre-B+ financing led by NRL Capital, and followed by new investor Kington Capital as well as all the old shareholders including Lilly Asia Ventures (LAV), Vivo Capital, Matrix Partners, GGV Capital, and LongRiver Investments (LRI).
The proceeds will be used for the research and development, clinical trials, and commercialisation of its modular surgical robot, the Carina™ RAS Platform.
Ronovo Surgical was founded in November 2019 by Dr Changzheng (John) Ma, former Senior Vice President of Strategic Development at Intuitive Surgical, and Dr Ying Mao, former Head of Robotic Control Technology at Johnson & Johnson Auris Health. Its core team members have worked for globally leading medical device and robotics companies such as Intuitive Surgical, Auris Health, KUKA, Medtronic, and Smith+Nephew, with rich experiences in surgical robot design, R&D, manufacturing, and commercialization.
Carina™ RAS Platform, China’s first split modular surgical robot, will soon enter the human clinical trial stage. With the full consideration the actual clinical surgical needs of minimally invasive surgeons, the Carina™ laparoscopic surgical robot can not only reduce the cost of robotic-assisted surgery (RAS), but also improve the surgeon’s surgical experience, expand the robotic surgical multi-specialty procedures, and promote the full penetration of RAS.
