deepull Raises €50 Million Series C for Rapid Sepsis Diagnostic System

Barcelona-based deepull has closed an oversubscribed €50 million Series C round co-led by Columbus Venture Partners, Panakès Partners, and Mérieux Equity Partners to advance its UllCORE sepsis diagnostic system. The FDA Breakthrough Designated technology identifies 95% of sepsis-causing pathogens and antibiotic resistance genes directly from blood in one hour, compared to the days required by current culture methods. The funds will accelerate clinical validation and regulatory approvals for the fully automated system, which could transform the diagnosis of sepsis, which currently contributes to 1 in 3 hospital deaths in the U.S. and 30-40% mortality worldwide.
“The strong support from investors validates our potential to redefine sepsis diagnostics,” said Jordi Carrera, CEO of deepull. The UllCORE system addresses critical limitations of current methods, which often miss pathogens due to non-specific symptoms and long turnaround times. Its multiplex PCR technology detects microbial DNA directly from whole blood, providing actionable results during the critical early window when treatment is most effective.
Investors highlighted deepull’s transformative potential, with Panakès Partners citing its extensive search for optimal sepsis solutions and Mérieux Equity Partners recognizing the early promise of the technology. “This positions us to deliver a paradigm-shifting diagnostic to global healthcare systems,” added Rick Ivey, Chairman of deepull. The financing marks a critical step in the commercialization of a solution that could significantly improve outcomes for sepsis patients worldwide.
