At the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE), Eisai China and GE HealthCare signed a strategic cooperation agreement to transform the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Through this partnership, the two companies will combine their expertise in neurology and innovative therapies to focus on early detection, precision diagnosis and evaluation of treatment efficacy for AD. This initiative includes advancing clinical research, establishing improved diagnostic and treatment pathways, and improving patient education and access to care. “This collaboration will enhance the detection and intervention of AD and improve patient outcomes and quality of life,” said Eisai China, a pioneer in AD drug development.

A multi-center research project will be established to drive scientific progress, involving hospitals and research institutions in exploring integrated Alzheimer’s diagnosis pathways. Advanced technologies such as Aβ PET and brain MRI will be central to these efforts, accelerating the application of research findings and promoting academic exchanges. The partnership also plans to form a dedicated team to standardize clinical practices and improve treatment consistency nationwide, fostering a new era in neuro-nuclear medicine.

Given the high prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease in China – 17 million cases by 2021 – this partnership addresses a critical need, especially as the population ages. With GE HealthCare’s comprehensive molecular imaging tools and Eisai’s targeted therapies such as Lencanerumab, early intervention is possible, potentially identifying AD lesions 10-15 years before clinical symptoms. This collaboration is poised to significantly reduce the economic and social burden of Alzheimer’s disease, estimated at CNY 130,000 per patient per year, while offering hope for better patient outcomes through early diagnosis and precision treatment.
