Akumin has launched its first two AXIS™ Expandable Patient Solutions suites, installing them at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Mississippi and Bon Secours Harbour View Medical Center in Virginia. Each suite features PET/CT technology within a relocatable, expandable unit designed to match the look and feel of permanent hospital facilities.

The AXIS platform, first showcased at RSNA 2024, is designed to help hospitals overcome capital and space constraints while meeting growing imaging demand. Each PET/CT unit includes three uptake rooms, enabling more than double the throughput of traditional mobile trailers.

Akumin CEO Henry Howe said AXIS was developed in response to hospital partners’ challenges with high construction costs and patient volume pressures. Units can be operational within 60 days, offering a fast, flexible path to advanced imaging capacity.

Baptist-DeSoto, a 339-bed acute care hospital, and Bon Secours Harbour View, the region’s first smart hospital, are the first adopters of the model. Akumin plans to expand the AXIS line to include linear accelerator and MRI configurations, further broadening its role in delivering scalable oncology and imaging solutions.
