First da Vinci 5 Surgical System Installed in Hong Kong, Marking New Era in Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Intuitive Fosun has announced the first installation of the da Vinci 5 surgical system in Hong Kong. As a next-generation surgical robotics platform, the da Vinci 5 achieves comprehensive advancements in computing power, software architecture, and human-machine interaction. The installation in Hong Kong marks the beginning of a new era in robotic-assisted surgery.

In February of this year, the da Vinci 5 entered the Innovation Medical Device Special Review Procedure of China Medical Products Administration (NMPA). The early installation in Hong Kong will further enrich its clinical experience and establish a stronger foundation for broader future applications. Over 1,400 da Vinci 5 systems have been installed worldwide, and more than 12,800 surgeons in 10 countries have used them to treat over 380,000 patients.

The da Vinci 5 introduces several technological innovations. System computing power has increased 10,000 times compared to the previous generation, enabling new system capabilities and digital experiences while allowing room for future integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning through an upgradeable data architecture. Force feedback technology transmits three-dimensional push-pull forces applied to patient tissue from the instrument tip to the hand controller, helping surgeons control force more precisely. The new system integrates various components required for surgery, allowing surgeons to manage them through a unified console menu. Simplified system setup, improved instrument exchange guidance, and functional automation help nursing teams master operating skills more easily. The system also delivers realistic 3D visual effects through improved color accuracy, higher resolution, and optimized image processing, while an upgraded ergonomic design enhances operating comfort.
