Medtronic Launches Touch Surgery™ Live Stream and New AI Algorithms

Medtronic has announced the launch of Touch Surgery™ Live Stream for remote observation and enhanced surgical training, and 14 new AI algorithms for post-operative analysis in laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery, available through its Touch Surgery™ ecosystem of digital technologies, which also includes surgical video, simulations and case management solutions.

Touch Surgery™ Live Stream brings real-time remote observation to operating rooms in more than 20 countries, enabling secure live streaming of procedures and creating an immersive virtual learning environment with the benefits of physical presence. With Touch Surgery™ Live Stream, surgeons, trainees and OR managers can now conduct and participate in live broadcasts, engaging in a hands-on educational experience through virtual coaching sessions, eliminating geographical barriers and democratizing access to world-class surgical education.

Across surgical workflow, instrument, and anatomy detection, the 14 new AI-driven algorithms expand the Touch Surgery™ Performance Insights platform’s capability to translate surgical videos into actionable insights post-procedure. The expanded analytics cover a comprehensive range of procedures, including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and robotic-assisted hysterectomy, offering unprecedented insights into performance metrics, workflow, anatomy identification, and instrument use.
