Talica has announced the acquisition of Hard Anodize, a Minneapolis-area provider of precision aluminum anodizing and specialized surface treatment services, in a move that strengthens its position as a national provider of precision metal finishing for highly regulated industries, including medical device manufacturing. The acquisition expands Talica’s portfolio of specialized surface science technologies, adding critical capabilities that support the production of mission-critical components where quality, precision, and performance are essential.

For more than 30 years, Hard Anodize has served medical device manufacturers alongside aerospace and defense customers, operating under AS9100-certified, ISO 9001-certified, and NADCAP-approved quality systems. Its comprehensive range of aluminum finishing services — including Type II Anodizing, Type III Hard Anodizing, Chromate Conversion Coating, and Precision Masking — supports the stringent surface quality requirements of surgical instruments, implantable device components, and other precision medical hardware. Hard Anodize’s expertise in tight-tolerance aluminum finishing complements Talica’s existing capabilities in passivation, electropolishing, and precision cleaning, creating a more comprehensive surface treatment platform for medical device OEMs.

Paul Belliveau, CEO of Talica, said the company is excited to welcome Hard Anodize to Talica, noting that the company was formed with the intent of bringing together best-in-class surface technology businesses defined by a strong culture and an exceptional team. Belliveau added that Hard Anodize’s highly technical capabilities will be an ideal addition to Talica’s family of companies.

Brian Alesen, former co-owner of Hard Anodize, said the company was founded with the goal of providing customers with superior anodizing services with an emphasis on customer service and product quality. Alesen added that he is excited to see how being a part of Talica will bring new services to customers and new opportunities to team members.

The addition of Hard Anodize expands Talica’s presence in the Upper Midwest while enhancing its ability to support medical device, aerospace, defense, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and other precision manufacturing customers across North America. By broadening its surface treatment portfolio, Talica is positioning itself as a more comprehensive partner for medical device OEMs requiring specialized metal finishing for critical components.
