The decision broadens the platform’s U.S. indications beyond its current use in urology, colorectal surgery, thoracic surgery, and transoral procedures.

The da Vinci SP system is designed to enable surgeons to work through a single incision or natural orifice, combining three multi-jointed instruments and an articulating 3DHD endoscope through one entry point. This configuration offers access to complex anatomical sites while maintaining high levels of visualization and control. According to Iman Jeddi, PhD, Senior Vice President and General Manager of da Vinci Platforms and Product Operations, “Da Vinci SP was designed to give surgeons advanced capability through a single port, offering the precision and control needed in narrow or deep anatomical spaces.”

Intuitive noted that the expanded clearance aligns with its broader development pathway for the SP platform. Jeddi added that the company continues to introduce new tools and features to support less invasive surgical approaches and extend the system’s utility across specialties. Myriam Curet, MD, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, emphasized the long-term goal of improving patient recovery and care experiences, stating, “Advancing da Vinci SP is part of our long-term commitment to helping improve the future of patient care — supporting approaches that are less invasive, reduce recovery time, lower the total cost of care, and create a better experience for patients as they return to their lives.”

More than 500 peer-reviewed publications now document the safety, efficacy, and clinical outcomes associated with the da Vinci SP platform. Beyond the United States, the system is authorized for a broad range of procedures in Europe, Japan, and Korea, reflecting its growing role in minimally invasive surgery worldwide.

The FDA has cleared new indications for Intuitive’s da Vinci SP system, expanding its use to inguinal hernia repair, cholecystectomy, and appendectomy, further extending the platform’s minimally invasive capabilities.

[7,25,677
687,758
post-37673","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-americas","category-products-technologies","category-surgical","tag-fda","tag-robotics
["GET
