The company opened at HKD 59 per share and closed the day at HKD 56.6, pushing its market capitalization above HKD 20 billion. The listing makes Edge Medical the third Chinese surgical robotics company to enter the public markets, reflecting growing investor interest in advanced surgical technologies.

Edge Medical is the first company in China and the second worldwide to receive regulatory approval from China’s National Medical Products Administration for both multi-port and single-port laparoscopic surgical robots. The company’s MP1000 multi-port and SP1000 single-port systems are positioned as domestic alternatives to Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci platform. The MP1000 has obtained regulatory clearance in 14 overseas jurisdictions, including those in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, Africa, and South America, which supports the company’s early global expansion efforts.

Commercial adoption has progressed steadily. According to its prospectus, Edge Medical sold 20 MP1000 systems in 2024, ranking first among domestic manufacturers that year. By the end of June 2025, the company had signed cumulative global sales agreements for 61 MP1000 systems, covering more than 20 countries. Revenues grew rapidly from RMB 48.0 million in 2023 to RMB 160 million in 2024, with RMB 149 million recorded in the first half of 2025 alone.

Despite its strong top-line growth, the company remains unprofitable, reflecting the capital-intensive nature of surgical robotics. Net losses totaled RMB 213 million in 2023, RMB 219 million in 2024, and RMB 89.1 million in the first half of 2025. A key factor is high expenses on research and development, which reached RMB 171 million in 2023, RMB 226 million in 2024, and RMB 97 million in the first half of 2025, as the company continues to invest in system performance and new applications.

Competition remains intense in the Chinese surgical robotics market, where the da Vinci system from Intuitive Surgical dominates the laparoscopic robotics market. According to data from its local joint venture, Intuitive Fosun, the da Vinci system has over 480 installations in China and has treated more than 810,000 patients. Now that the da Vinci system is partially localized through domestic production, price reductions are narrowing the cost gap that once favored Chinese manufacturers. In response, Edge Medical is expanding its regional training center network and plans to establish around 20 additional centers globally over the next two to three years. With CE certification for both the MP1000 and the SP1000, Edge Medical is accelerating its entry into overseas markets while exploring emerging areas such as remote robotic surgery.

Edge Medical listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on January 8, becoming China’s third publicly traded surgical robotics company as revenue growth accelerates and competition with global incumbents intensifies.

[488,10,677,671
594,758
post-38043","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-breaking-news","category-strategic-development","category-surgical","category-top-news","tag-financing","tag-robotics
["GET
