Accuray’s Tomo® C Radiation Therapy System Approved in China

Accuray has received approval from China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) for the Tomo® C radiation therapy system, the first joint venture product from CNNC Accuray (Tianjin) Medical Technology, a joint venture established in January 2019 by CNNC High Energy Equipment (Tianjin) Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China Isotope and Radiation Corporation (CIRC) (HKSE: 01763) and Accuray Asia Limited, a subsidiary of Accuray Incorporated (NASDAQ: ARAY).

The registration dossier for the Tomo® C radiotherapy system for the type B market was submitted to the NMPA in November 2002.

With fully integrated treatment planning, centralized data management and ultra-precise treatment delivery, the Tomo® C platform enables greater control of the radiation dose.

The system’s unique architecture and high-speed multi-leaf collimator allow medical teams to choose from a range of delivery modalities, from conventional fractionated to ultra-hypofractionated treatments, to optimise outcomes for standard radiotherapy indications such as breast, prostate, lung and head and neck cancers, as well as complex treatments such as total bone marrow irradiation.

Currently, the number of people needing radiotherapy in China far exceeds the capacity to treat them. In fact, the number of radiotherapy systems is well below the World Health Organization recommendations. Through our CNNC-Accuray joint venture, we can now offer the Tomo C System to the largest segment of the Chinese market,” said Suzanne Winter, President and CEO of Accuray.
