SOPHiA GENETICS Unveils AI-Powered Digital Twins to Advance Personalized Cancer Care

SOPHiA GENETICS, a Nasdaq-listed leader in AI-based precision medicine, has launched SOPHiA DDM™ Digital Twins, a new research technology designed to transform how clinicians approach cancer treatment. The system creates virtual replicas of individual patients by integrating their clinical, biological, imaging, and genomic data. These “digital twins” allow oncologists to simulate disease progression, treatment responses, and survival outcomes, offering a predictive, data-driven framework to guide clinical decision-making.

According to Dr. Pierre Heudel of Centre Léon Bérard, the digital twin model provides an integrative visualization of multimodal oncologic data, uncovering hidden correlations across different data types. By testing scenarios in a virtual environment, clinicians can anticipate therapeutic outcomes before real-world interventions. Dr. Clara Montagut from Hospital del Mar described the technology as a major step forward, enabling oncologists to virtually model and refine treatment strategies before applying them in clinical practice.

The system leverages SOPHiA GENETICS’ global network of users and its extensive multimodal cancer dataset to enrich the predictive power of its simulations. By pooling anonymized data from institutions worldwide, the platform allows clinicians to benefit from collective insights and broader patient patterns. Dr. Ernest Nadal of the Catalan Institute of Oncology emphasized that the technology could accelerate hypothesis testing and expand precision medicine applications across oncology research.

Dr. Mariano Provencio from Puerta de Hierro University Hospital noted its potential in the field of pre-surgical immunotherapy, calling it a “breakthrough” for advancing data-driven medicine. As new data are continuously integrated, the AI-powered system evolves, refining its predictive accuracy and supporting both clinical and research applications.

Initially launched for lung cancer on the SOPHiA DDM™ Platform, additional cancer types will follow in the coming months. SOPHiA GENETICS will showcase the technology at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress in Berlin from October 17–21, marking a significant step toward more personalized, anticipatory oncology care driven by artificial intelligence.
