PENTAX Medical Divests C2 CryoBalloon™ Product Line to Merit Medical Systems

PENTAX Medical, a division of Japan-based HOYA Group and a global leader in flexible reusable endoscopy, has announced the sale of its C2 CryoBalloon™ product line to U.S.-based Merit Medical Systems under an asset purchase agreement. The transaction aligns with PENTAX Medical’s strategy to concentrate on its core endoscopic portfolio while allowing the C2 technology to grow under a company with a strong presence in therapeutic endoscopy.

The C2 CryoBalloon™, introduced into PENTAX Medical’s portfolio in 2017, offers a minimally invasive approach for treating Barrett’s Esophagus and other gastrointestinal disorders. The device uses controlled cryotherapy to ablate diseased tissue while preserving healthy structures. With the transfer of ownership, Merit Medical plans to expand the technology’s adoption across its global network, enhancing access to cryotherapy treatments for patients with chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and related conditions.

According to Dominique Vincent, President of PENTAX Medical, the decision reflects a strategic refinement of the company’s business focus. “C2 technology has been an exciting part of our innovation journey, and we are confident that Merit Medical is ideally positioned to unlock its full potential,” Vincent said. “This transition allows us to strengthen our commitment to flexible reusable endoscopy and continue developing intuitive solutions for clinicians worldwide.”

Merit Medical will integrate the C2 CryoBalloon™ into its expanding Endoscopy portfolio, complementing its existing offerings in interventional and therapeutic procedures. The company will transfer product manufacturing to its South Jordan, Utah facility over the coming months. Several PENTAX Medical employees involved with the C2 product line will join Merit Medical to support a smooth transition and ensure technical continuity.

This divestiture reinforces PENTAX Medical’s strategic focus on its core expertise in flexible endoscopy while enabling Merit Medical to broaden its footprint in upper gastrointestinal treatments. Both companies expect the transaction to strengthen their respective positions in advancing minimally invasive therapeutic solutions for clinicians and patients worldwide.
