Sovato, a Santa Barbara–based company developing technology for remote robotic surgery, has closed a Series B funding round, bringing its total financing to $41 million. The round was led by Beringea, with participation from existing investors including Polaris Partners, Intuitive, GS Ventures, Laerdal Million Lives Fund, Puma Venture Capital, and Teladoc Health. The funds will support the continued development and global expansion of Sovato’s platform, which allows healthcare organizations to perform robotic surgeries and procedures remotely.

The company’s system-agnostic platform is designed to integrate with a wide range of surgical, interventional, and diagnostic robotic systems, allowing clinicians to operate from afar. As the robotic surgery market grows at an estimated annual rate of 12.4% through 2030, Sovato’s approach aims to address one of healthcare’s most pressing challenges—limited access to specialized surgical care. “Over half the world’s population lacks access to timely, safe surgical care, and in the U.S., millions are still forced to travel for routine procedures—a challenge that will only grow as surgeon shortages intensify,” said Cynthia Perazzo, Co-Founder and CEO of Sovato. “Remote robotic surgery and procedure programs provide healthcare organizations with a practical way to extend the reach and impact of skilled surgeons, care teams, and operating rooms—enabling a more sustainable and accessible model of care.”

Sovato has demonstrated the feasibility of its technology in preclinical studies in the United States and abroad by performing remote procedures over distances ranging from hundreds to thousands of miles. These trials validate the platform’s ability to support real-world hub-and-spoke models, in which centralized surgical expertise can reach patients in remote or underserved areas.

“With this Series B funding and three years of proven momentum, Sovato is well-positioned to scale the only platform creating the market for remote surgery and procedure programs,” said Michael Gross, managing partner at Beringea and a Sovato board director. “Co-founders Dr. Yulun Wang and Cynthia Perazzo, whose innovations have shaped the surgical robotics industry, along with the entire Sovato team, bring the leadership and bold vision necessary to redefine surgical access and healthcare economics.”

The company continues to collaborate with healthcare providers and robotics manufacturers to establish operational and clinical guidelines for remote robotic surgery. These efforts aim to ensure safe, effective, and scalable adoption of the technology, setting the stage for a new era of connected surgical care.
