MGI Tech Grants Swiss Rockets Exclusive Global Rights to CoolMPS Sequencing Technology Outside Asia

Shenzhen, China-based MGI Tech has entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Switzerland-based Swiss Rockets AG to globalize its CoolMPS sequencing technology across markets outside Asia-Pacific and Greater China. The agreement, executed through MGI’s U.S. subsidiaries MGI US LLC and Complete Genomics Inc., covers research, development, manufacturing, and commercialization of CoolMPS-based sequencing products, while MGI retains rights in its home markets.
CoolMPS uses antibody-based recognition chemistry with natural nucleotides to avoid DNA “scarring,” a limitation of conventional sequencing methods. When deployed on MGI’s DNBSEQ platforms, the technology can generate read lengths of up to 600–700 bases, supporting applications in oncology, microbiome research, and whole-genome testing.
Under the new agreement, Swiss Rockets is granted exclusive rights to the intellectual property tied to CoolMPS, including patents and associated software, for commercialization in the United States, Europe, and other global markets. The company plans to integrate the technology into its diagnostic and precision-medicine platforms, supported by an investment agreement with Emergent BioSolutions.
MGI Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Rade Drmanac said the partnership “marks a pivotal step for MGI to maximize the impact of CoolMPS worldwide by joining forces with a like-minded innovator.” Swiss Rockets CEO Dr. Vladimir Cmiljanovic said the deal strengthens the company’s ability to advance personalized therapies and disease prevention initiatives.
The collaboration is intended to accelerate adoption of CoolMPS in clinical and research sequencing, broadening its geographic and commercial reach beyond its original manufacturing base in China.
