Polyembo Secures Funding to Advance Novel Vascular Embolic Technology

Longmont, Colorado-based Polyembo has raised new funding from a multinational strategic investor to accelerate commercialization of its Scrunchy embolic device. The company plans to use the capital to advance product development activities and pursue regulatory clearances.
Scrunchy is a self-expanding vascular implant designed to block or reduce blood flow during interventional procedures. The device features multiple struts packed with dense absorbent fibers that promote stable occlusion once deployed inside the vessel. It is intended for use across a broad range of vessel sizes, which may help reduce the volume of inventory hospitals keep on hand.

Interventional radiologist Jeremy Durack, M.D., from the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Medical Center, said the technology aims to address several long-standing challenges with conventional embolic solutions, including migration risk and inventory complexity. “The Scrunchy occludes fast, grips the vessel wall and could significantly reduce the number of devices we need to order,” he said.
Vascular embolization devices are widely used to control bleeding, cut off blood supply to tumors, seal aneurysms, and treat arteriovenous malformations. They are also used in uterine fibroid, prostate artery, and neurovascular embolization procedures. Polyembo intends to move the Scrunchy through the next stage of clinical and regulatory development as it advances toward market entry.
