Neuralink Launches CAN-PRIME: First Clinical Trial in Canada for Brain-Computer Interface

Neuralink has received Health Canada approval to initiate CAN-PRIME, its first international clinical trial. This groundbreaking study will evaluate the safety and functionality of Neuralink’s fully-implantable, wireless brain-computer interface (BCI), building on the ongoing success of the PRIME Study in the U.S. Designed to revolutionize care for individuals with neurological disorders, the CAN-PRIME trial represents a pivotal step in advancing BCI technology globally.
The CAN-PRIME Study focuses on empowering people with quadriplegia, enabling them to control external devices through thought. Like its U.S. counterpart, the trial will assess the safety of Neuralink’s implant and surgical robot while examining the BCI’s potential to restore autonomy for individuals with conditions such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or cervical spinal cord injuries.
Currently open for recruitment, the CAN-PRIME Study invites Canadian residents with limited or no use of both hands due to qualifying conditions to participate.
