Medtech Canada Applauds 10-Year Healthcare Funding Agreement
Medtech Canada, an association representing medical technology companies in Canada, has applauded the federal, provincial, and territorial governments for agreeing on a new 10-year health care funding agreement. The President and CEO of Medtech Canada, Nicole DeKort, expressed her appreciation for the recognition of the immense needs facing Canada’s healthcare systems and the collective effort to address the challenges through the new funding agreement.
As the governments begin negotiations on the bilateral funding agreement’s specifics, Medtech Canada urges them to consider the significant role medical technologies can play in addressing surgical and procedural backlogs and reducing burdens on Canada’s health care workforce. The adoption of medical technologies will contribute to creating critically important health system efficiencies, ensuring its sustainability for years to come.
Medical technologies can provide better patient outcomes, and Medtech Canada cited examples such as technologies that enable minimally invasive procedures allowing patients to leave hospitals sooner and recover faster, digital solutions that provide faster diagnoses, and remote monitoring technologies that allow patients to receive care at home.
Medtech Canada acknowledges the slow adoption of beneficial technologies in Canada and sees this as an opportunity to do better. The association looks forward to continuing to work with the government and healthcare partners to contribute to achieving the goals set out in this new funding agreement.
