Philips Launches AI-Powered IVUS Mentor to Expand Global Access to Interventional Training

At the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) 2025 conference in San Francisco, Philips announced the global launch of the IVUS Mentor, an AI-based education platform aimed at widening access to intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) training. The tool combines expert-developed content with adaptive learning to help clinicians build interpretation skills more efficiently, particularly in regions where specialized mentorship is limited.

Philips developed the platform in collaboration with Dr. Justin Davies, an interventional cardiologist and CEO of Cerebria, along with input from leading IVUS specialists. The system delivers personalized learning pathways modeled on how experienced physicians interpret IVUS images, using case-based instruction to reinforce pattern recognition and decision-making confidence. According to the company, the platform also supports multilingual access to help close regional training gaps.

Although IVUS is strongly recommended in clinical guidelines, global adoption remains comparatively low, with usage reported in only around 15–20% of coronary interventions and less than 12% of peripheral vascular procedures. Philips hopes the new educational model will help address this discrepancy by making high-quality training more flexible and scalable. “As interventional cardiologists, we know that IVUS can transform patient outcomes, but learning to interpret images confidently takes time. By integrating adaptive AI into the training process, Philips is helping clinicians bridge that gap more efficiently and consistently,” said Dr. Davies.

The IVUS Mentor is intended strictly for professional education and not for clinical use. The platform becomes available globally from October 26, 2025, with live demonstrations planned during TCT 2025 and VIVA 2025.
