Philips Supports Finnish Tampere Heart Hospital’s Decarbonization
Royal Philips has conducted a comprehensive analysis of the environmental sustainability of Tampere Heart Hospital, including an in-depth assessment of the interventional cardiology area, a carbon footprint assessment, and a detailed life cycle assessment of the hospital’s medical equipment, supply chain, and clinical operations.
As part of the on-going 15-year strategic managed services agreement between Tampere Heart Hospital and Philips, the analysis was translated into a joint action plan that will help the heart hospital accelerate its decarbonization efforts in line with Finland’s world-leading commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2035.
The analysis provided a baseline carbon footprint for Tampere Heart Hospital’s interventional cardiology service and facilitated the identification of opportunities to improve patient throughput and equipment utilization to reduce future emissions.
Key findings included optimizing the hospital’s patient care pathways to improve efficiency and material use, as well as opportunities to reduce inbound air freight, reduce waste, and improve waste separation.
