Relief Cardiovascular, part of the inQB8 Medical Technologies portfolio, has successfully closed a $12 million Series A financing round, co-led by Broadview Ventures and Advent Life Sciences, with additional participation from Pacific Health Investment, Heartwork Capital, and an undisclosed multinational strategic investor. The funding will advance the development and initial clinical trials of the Relief System, a novel transcatheter intelligent implant designed to revolutionize fluid management in heart failure patients by monitoring and modulating renal venous pressure.

The investment will enable California-based Relief Cardiovascular to initiate a first-in-human feasibility study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the Relief System. This innovative device represents a significant advancement in the treatment of heart failure, particularly for patients who are resistant to traditional diuretics. The system features a unique “puller” mechanism to adjust renal vein pressure, integrated with sensors that provide clinicians with real-time multi-parametric data to optimize fluid management.

As part of the financing, Shahzad Malik, MD from Advent Life Sciences, and Maria Berkman, MD from Broadview Ventures will join the Relief Cardiovascular Board of Directors. Both Malik and Berkman expressed enthusiasm about the potential of the Relief System to fill a critical gap in heart failure treatment and improve patient outcomes. Alex Cooper, CEO of Relief Cardiovascular, commented on the financing, “This pivotal funding round enables us to move the Relief System into human studies, bringing us one step closer to offering a transformative solution for heart failure management.” With the support of expert clinicians and seasoned investors, Relief Cardiovascular is poised to make significant advancements in the treatment of this challenging condition.
