Nua Surgical, an Irish medtech innovator in maternal health, has secured €6.5 million in Series A funding led by EQT Life Sciences under its Health Economics strategy. The investment will support the manufacturing, approval, and early commercialization of the SteriCISION® C-Section Retractor, a self-retaining surgical device designed to improve C-section procedures. This patented device provides fast, adjustable, and safe retraction during surgery, helping clinicians better manage critical aspects such as tissue repair and bleeding. SteriCISION® aims to reduce surgical complications and improve patient outcomes, with a focus on minimizing risks related to C-sections, one of the most common surgeries globally.

The Series A round was backed by Texas Medical Center Venture Fund, Kidron Capital, Enterprise Ireland, and business veterans from Ireland and the U.S. Nua Surgical plans to use the funds to scale up operations in Ireland, expand its team, and pursue FDA clearance for the device. “This funding is a significant milestone for Nua Surgical, enabling us to advance SteriCISION® and bring it closer to healthcare providers and patients worldwide,” said Barry McCann, CEO of Nua Surgical. “We look forward to working with our investors who share our commitment to transforming maternal health.”

The Company’s Board will be strengthened by adding female leaders, with Anne Portwich of EQT and Anula Jayasuriya of Kidron Capital joining the Board as Directors. Gabrielle Guttman of TMC Venture Fund and Prashanthi Ramesh of EQT will serve as board observers. “SteriCISION® has the potential to significantly improve outcomes for mothers undergoing cesarean section while reducing healthcare costs,” said Anne Portwich, Partner at EQT Life Sciences. “We are proud to support Nua Surgical on its way to the market.
