Hangzhou-based Sonosilicon has completed a Pre-A financing round led by the AstraZeneca-CICC Healthcare Investment Fund, with participation from China Fortune-Tech Capital, Hangzhou High-Tech Jintou Group, and Shanghai Zhuopu. The funding will support the company’s continued development of advanced ultrasound technologies and the industrialization of domestically developed high-end systems.

Sonosilicon focuses on miniaturized ultrasound-on-chip modules and integrated systems built on phased-array ASICs, silicon-based ultrasound transducers, and edge-computing-enabled ultrasound AI. The company has established an end-to-end proprietary technology chain spanning chips, modules, and intelligent systems. It is currently the only company in China with in-house development capabilities for four-dimensional phased-array ultrasound imaging chips and one of the few globally to have built a closed-loop ultrasound-on-chip technology platform.

The company is working to address domestic gaps in large-scale phased-array ultrasound, four-dimensional intracardiac echocardiography, and miniature ring-array intravascular ultrasound. In parallel, Sonosilicon is expanding into emerging applications such as wearable ultrasound patches and ultrasound-based brain–computer interfaces, supported by its proprietary eMUTrix active array ultrasound and flexible interconnection technologies.

“We are pleased to lead this round of investment in Sonosilicon,” said Chen Bing, Vice President of International Business Development, Partnerships, and Strategic Investment at AstraZeneca. “As semiconductors and system-on-chip technologies converge, medical imaging is entering a new phase defined by chip-level integration, modular design, and intelligence. Sonosilicon is building on core ultrasound-on-chip technologies to drive meaningful change in the field.”

Shen Yuanjiang, Managing Director at CICC Capital, said the company has demonstrated strong growth potential through its focus on core high-end ultrasound technologies and its forward-looking approach to next-generation systems. “The completion of this Pre-A round reflects recognition of both its technical capabilities and long-term prospects. With coordinated industry resources, Sonosilicon is well-positioned to advance product deployment and scalable adoption while contributing to the continued evolution of China’s high-end medical ultrasound sector.”
