Precision Neuroscience Acquires MEMS Foundry in Texas

Brain–computer interface (BCI) company Precision Neuroscience has acquired a 22,000-square-foot microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) foundry outside Dallas, TX, bringing its supply chain in-house and establishing Precision as one of the leading manufacturers of biomedical MEMS in the US.

The acquisition was completed through a wholly owned subsidiary, Precision BioMEMS, which will retain the experienced team at the facility and continue to operate as a foundry serving other cutting-edge companies in the US.

Founded in 2021, Precision Neuroscience has created a direct communication pathway between the human brain and computers and has completed the first-in-human clinical trials of its device. The company expects its minimally invasive brain implant to enable people with severe neurological conditions such as speech disorders and paralysis to regain independence, communicate with loved ones and return to work.

The foundry acquisition gives Precision full production control of its core technology, a thin-film microelectrode array called the Layer 7 Cortical Interface, which packs 1,024 electrodes into an area of 1.5 square centimetres, and enables higher levels of quality management and the ability to rapidly iterate on future versions.
