Bioretec Names Sarah van Hellenberg Hubar-Fisher as CEO to Lead Next Growth Phase

Bioretec, a Finnish developer of absorbable orthopedic implants, has named Sarah van Hellenberg Hubar-Fisher as Chief Executive Officer. She succeeds her interim role that began earlier this year and steps down from her Board positions, including Vice Chairperson and Audit Committee member, as she takes over the permanent leadership role.

The company’s Board of Directors appointed Antti Vasara as its new Vice Chairman and Audit Committee member. Board Chairperson Kustaa Poutiainen noted that van Hellenberg Hubar-Fisher demonstrated strong leadership during her interim tenure, particularly in advancing the company’s commercial and regulatory strategies.

Van Hellenberg Hubar-Fisher brings more than two decades of experience in healthcare and medtech. Her career includes senior roles at Johnson & Johnson, venture partner positions at Spain-based Nina Capital and U.S.-based Growth Science Ventures, and ongoing service on the Board of Global Surgical Initiatives, a nonprofit focused on surgical care in underserved regions. She holds an MBA from Babson College and a postgraduate degree in global business from the University of Oxford.

At Bioretec, her priorities include scaling the global launch of the company’s CE-marked RemeOs technology, building on the market performance of its Activa line, and supporting the company’s innovation pipeline. She emphasized that Bioretec is positioned to expand its global footprint and deliver technologies that can advance orthopedic care.
