Akumin Unveils New 1.5T MRI and Drop Trailer Design for Expanding Mobile Imaging Access

Akumin has expanded its AXIS line of relocatable imaging suites with two new systems unveiled at RSNA 2025, the Akumin AXIS 1.5T MRI and the Akumin AXIS Drop Trailer, a patent-pending design that lowers directly to the ground to provide step-free access. Both additions aim to increase flexibility in the delivery of diagnostic imaging amid ongoing demand for capacity and rapid deployment.

The new AXIS 1.5T MRI features Magnetom Viato technology from Siemens Healthineers. It offers providers seeking to add imaging services a relocatable option without the need for extensive construction or long installation timelines. Designed to deliver high-quality imaging and automated workflows, the MRI suite can be positioned and activated quickly in a fully outfitted environment.

Akumin also debuted the AXIS Drop Trailer, which combines the mobility of a trailer with the features of a permanent imaging suite. Its hydraulic axle system lowers the unit to ground level in seconds, improving accessibility for patients. Equipped with a Biograph Trinion PET/CT scanner from Siemens Healthineers, the Drop Trailer supports advanced PET/CT studies, including those used to diagnose neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease. It offers hospitals a faster, lower-cost alternative to constructing a new facility.

Akumin’s AXIS portfolio includes MRI, PET/CT, and linear accelerator configurations used in diagnostic imaging and cancer care. Several units are already in service across the United States, supporting hospitals as they expand imaging and treatment capacity.
