BIOTRONIK and University of Sydney Launch Three-Year Digital Cardiac Care Partnership
Berlin-based BIOTRONIK and the University of Sydney have entered a three-year collaboration to advance digital health solutions for cardiovascular care. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) brings together BIOTRONIK’s experience in implanted cardiac devices and remote monitoring with the University’s research expertise, including the Westmead Applied Research Centre. The partnership seeks to develop and evaluate new digital tools that can be integrated into standard care pathways and deployed at scale.
Over the next three years through 2028, the partnership will focus on remote patient monitoring, AI-enabled decision support, and data-driven care models aimed at improving long-term disease management. In signing the agreement, both organizations pointed to the growing strain on healthcare systems caused by rising demand, workforce shortages, and limited access to specialist care in remote regions. “This MoU is about more than just technology. It’s about reimagining how we deliver care,” said Jan Ewert, Managing Director of BIOTRONIK Australia and New Zealand.
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide, underscoring the need for approaches that extend care beyond the hospital environment. The partners plan to test digital tools in real-world clinical settings, with the goal of improving continuity of care and strengthening patient engagement. Professor Clara Chow AM said the agreement reflects a shared commitment to translating research into practical impact. “We are thrilled to deepen our relationship with BIOTRONIK to co-develop digital health solutions that are grounded in clinical evidence and designed with patient welfare at the heart,” she said.
