MediView Secures $24 Million to Advance Augmented Reality Surgical Navigation and Imaging
Cleveland, OH-based MediView XR has closed a $24 million Series A funding round to accelerate the development and global commercialization of its augmented reality (AR) surgical navigation and imaging ecosystem. The round was led by GE HealthCare, with participation from Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, Edge Ventures, and the JobsOhio Growth Capital Fund, highlighting growing confidence from major healthcare and technology stakeholders in MediView’s vision for AR-enhanced image-guided surgery.
Founded on intellectual property developed at Cleveland Clinic, MediView has created a new FDA-cleared platform that allows clinicians to visualize a patient’s internal anatomy in 3D during medical procedures. The system fuses data from CT scans and live ultrasound imaging, enabling real-time, interactive visualization through AR. By projecting anatomical structures directly onto the patient’s body, the platform eliminates the need for physicians to mentally convert 2D scans into 3D maps, improving spatial awareness and reducing cognitive strain during complex interventions.
MediView’s AR system provides a head-up, hands-free experience that enhances precision and efficiency in image-guided procedures such as biopsies, tumor ablations, and targeted injections. Clinicians can maintain natural hand–eye coordination, collaborate remotely with colleagues, and perform interventions with greater accuracy and confidence. The company’s “X-ray vision” technology, as described by its developers, represents a shift toward more intuitive and less invasive approaches in interventional care.
With the new financing, MediView plans to expand clinical validation, regulatory approvals, and industry partnerships to integrate its AR platform with imaging systems, therapeutic devices, and AI-driven analytics. The company also aims to scale its operations to meet growing demand from healthcare providers worldwide. CEO Mina Fahim said the mission is to simplify and democratize medical procedures through intuitive, real-time 3D visualization and decision-support tools, helping physicians deliver safer and more predictable outcomes.
According to GE HealthCare’s Meraj Khan, the collaboration between the two companies reflects a shared goal of transforming procedural navigation by combining advanced imaging with augmented reality. This partnership aligns with a broader trend in medtech toward intelligent visualization systems that merge digital and physical environments to enhance surgical precision.
MediView’s technology is part of a growing field where augmented reality and artificial intelligence intersect to improve surgical workflows.
