Science Corporation Appoints Darius Shahida as Chief Strategy Officer
Science Corporation has appointed Darius Shahida as Chief Strategy Officer, effective January 5, 2026. He will oversee capital raising, business development, and strategic partnerships for the brain-computer interface (BCI) company, reporting directly to founder and CEO Max Hodak. Shahida will be based at the company’s headquarters in Alameda, California.
Shahida joins Science after serving as Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Business Development Officer at Butterfly Network, where he played a central role in guiding the company through its 2021 public listing. During his tenure, he led capital strategy, M&A, and the launch of new businesses in AI, global health, and semiconductor technology. As a graduate student, he secured $250 million in funding for Butterfly in 2018, later helping negotiate the company’s $1.5 billion merger with Longview Acquisition Corp. Shahida has raised more than $1 billion in capital since 2018 and holds degrees from Harvard Business School and Duke University.
Hodak said the company will benefit from Shahida’s experience with high-growth medical technology organizations. “Darius brings deep experience in strategic growth, capital markets, and helping to build and grow category-defining medical technology companies. As our company accelerates, having this caliber of leadership focused on our critical capital needs and strategic growth matters enormously,” he said.
Shahida described Science as a rare opportunity in the emerging neural engineering sector. “Science has created a new category of company—unlike anything I have seen before,” he said. “From restoring vision to pushing the boundaries of neuroscience and biology to improve performance and extend life, Max and his team have shown what the future of medicine will look like.”
Butterfly Network founder Jonathan Rothberg praised Shahida’s impact during his time at the company, noting his role in shaping both its strategy and its technology direction. Science Corporation is currently developing PRIMA, a BCI implant for vision restoration in patients with geographic atrophy due to age-related macular degeneration. Clinical trial results published in the New England Journal of Medicine reported significant visual improvement in more than 80 percent of treated patients, and the technology was recently featured on the cover of Time Magazine. PRIMA remains under review for FDA and EU regulatory approval.
