B. Braun and Achieva Medical Sign China Distribution Deal for Intracranial Drug-Coated Balloon
B. Braun has signed a cooperation agreement with Achieva Medical, a subsidiary of Peijia Medical, granting Achieva exclusive distribution rights for the SeQuent Please CIS paclitaxel-coated intracranial balloon catheter in China. The partnership combines B. Braun’s global expertise in drug-coated balloon (DCB) technology with Achieva’s local market presence and commercial capabilities to advance the adoption of this innovative device following its regulatory approval.
Intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) is a major cause of ischemic stroke and a significant risk factor for recurrent stroke. In China, ICAS is present in up to 46.6% of stroke and transient ischemic attack patients. Conventional treatment approaches — including medical therapy alone, plain balloon angioplasty, and intracranial stenting — have clinical limitations. Based on the “intervention without implantation” concept, the paclitaxel-coated balloon catheter is designed to reduce the risk of post-procedural restenosis and recurrent ischemic events while avoiding permanent implants, offering a new treatment option for ICAS.
B. Braun has been commercializing drug-coated balloon products since 2008 and has accumulated nearly two decades of experience in the DCB field, supported by extensive global clinical data and evidence. The SeQuent Please CIS builds on this platform, leveraging the same technology foundation with proven clinical performance.
