AiM Medical Robotics Raises $8.1M to Advance MRI-Compatible Neurosurgical Robotics

Worcester, MA-based AiM Medical Robotics has closed an $8.1 million Series A financing round to accelerate the clinical development of its MRI-compatible surgical robotics platform. The round, led by London-based IQ Capital and New York-based 1540 Ventures, also drew investment from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Cancer Research Horizons, the Sontag Innovation Fund, and several angel investor groups including New York Angels and Harvard Business School Alumni Angels. With this funding, the Massachusetts-based company has raised more than $11.3 million to date, supported further by federal grants.

The company’s technology allows neurosurgeons to perform precise procedures directly inside an MRI suite, addressing intraoperative brain shift while eliminating the need to move patients between imaging and operating rooms. The system integrates real-time MRI with robotic guidance to improve accuracy in placing neurostimulation leads for Parkinson’s disease, while also enabling applications in tumor biopsy, ablation, and targeted intracranial drug delivery.

AiM CEO and co-founder Dr. Gregory Fischer emphasized that the financing will support the company’s first-in-human clinical study and advance regulatory and product development milestones. He noted the platform’s potential impact not only in Parkinson’s disease but across a range of cranial procedures, including cancer and epilepsy ablation and novel therapeutic delivery. The company expects its technology to streamline workflows, enhance surgical precision, and reduce patient risk and costs, positioning it as a potential shift in neurosurgical practice.
