Boston, MA-based Haemonetics Corporation has completed the acquisition of Vivasure Medical, a Galway, Ireland-based medical device company that develops fully absorbable solutions for percutaneous vessel closure. The transaction is valued at up to €185 million, including an upfront cash payment and additional milestone-based consideration, following Haemonetics’ strategic investment in Vivasure in 2022 that included an option to acquire the company.

Vivasure focuses on polymer-based implants and delivery systems designed to close large-bore arterial and venous access sites following minimally invasive procedures. Its lead product, the PerQseal Elite vascular closure system, uses a bioabsorbable patch deployed from inside the vessel to achieve sutureless closure. The system is designed for use in cardiology, interventional radiology, and vascular surgery, particularly in structural heart and endovascular interventions that require large access sheaths.

In 2025, Vivasure submitted a Premarket Approval application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for PerQseal Elite for arterial closure. The device has already received CE mark approval in Europe for both arterial and venous indications. Clinical data from prospective, multi-center studies demonstrated immediate hemostasis, no need for pre-close techniques, and no major complications at 30-day follow-up, supporting its clinical adoption in European markets. The product is not yet commercially available in the United States.

The acquisition expands Haemonetics’ interventional portfolio with a differentiated technology in the growing large-bore closure segment. Ken Crowley, Vice President and General Manager of Interventional Technologies at Haemonetics, stated that the transaction strengthens the company’s ability to serve structural heart and endovascular procedures by adding a fully absorbable option supported by clinical data and designed to integrate with its existing commercial infrastructure.

This transaction provides Vivasure with scale and resources to support broader market access. Andrew Glass, Chief Executive Officer of Vivasure Medical, stated that joining Haemonetics will help accelerate the global availability of PerQseal Elite and extend its reach to more physicians and patients worldwide. Vivasure was previously backed by a syndicate of healthcare-focused investors and public development institutions in Ireland and Europe, reflecting the company’s transition from early innovation to late-stage clinical and regulatory execution.
