Chinese PLA General Hospital operates through a large integrated healthcare system comprising multiple medical centers and affiliated units, including eight medical centers, Hainan Hospital, several regional medical districts in Beijing, and its graduate school. The hospital supports 21 clinical medicine departments and a broad multidisciplinary clinical network providing advanced diagnosis, treatment, healthcare, rehabilitation, and medical rescue services. Through its integrated structure, the hospital plays a key role in national emergency medical response, healthcare support, military medicine, and specialist patient care.
Clinical Excellence & Academic Leadership
Chinese PLA General Hospital supports multidisciplinary clinical development through eight national key disciplines, three military “double key” disciplines, five national clinical medicine research centers, seven national key research platforms represented by the State Key Laboratory of Kidney Disease, 46 provincial, ministerial, and military key laboratories, and 61 PLA medical research institutes and specialty centers.
The hospital is recognized for strengths in geriatric disease prevention and intervention systems, hearing loss research, respiratory infection and respiratory failure treatment, burn and reconstructive medicine, bone and cartilage tissue engineering, nephrology, hepatobiliary precision surgery, geriatric cardiovascular disease, trauma repair and tissue regeneration, integrated oncology treatment and research, minimally invasive robotic surgery, digestive endoscopy, interventional therapy, complex ophthalmic trauma, infectious diseases, severe liver disease, hematology, toxicology treatment, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, aviation and diving medicine, neonatal rescue, tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment, organ transplantation, traditional Chinese medicine, and 5G-enabled remote surgery.
As the only hospital-operated medical school in the PLA system, Chinese PLA Medical School undertakes doctoral and master’s degree education and advanced military medical talent training. The institution is authorized to grant doctoral degrees across five first-level disciplines and 20 secondary disciplines covering 47 specialties, and master’s degrees across seven first-level disciplines and 23 secondary disciplines covering 50 specialties.
The hospital has received nine first prizes and 32 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, two second prizes of the State Technological Invention Award, 37 first prizes of the Military Science and Technology Progress Award, and 24 first prizes for Military Medical Achievements. It has also been recognized as an International Baby-Friendly Model Hospital, a National Public Trust Model Hospital, and an Advanced Military Hospital for Service to Troops.
Beyond clinical medicine and research, the hospital has played major roles in disaster rescue, public health emergencies, and national medical support missions, including earthquake response, the Tianjin Port explosion, major national events, epidemic response to SARS, Ebola, and COVID-19, overseas medical aid, and public healthcare support initiatives under the Healthy China strategy.

Chinese PLA General Hospital supports advanced diagnosis, treatment, precision medicine, and surgical intervention through nearly 60,000 sets of medical equipment with a total value approaching RMB 7 billion. Its infrastructure includes fifth-generation CyberKnife systems, da Vinci robotic surgical systems, digital angiography systems, cyclotrons, the world’s second ZAP-X radiosurgery platform, computed tomography treatment systems, hyperbaric oxygen chambers, magnetic navigation interventional systems, intraoperative CT and intraoperative MRI, PET-CT and PET-MR systems, intraoperative radiotherapy systems, cobalt-60 therapy units, and a broad range of high-end medical technologies supporting complex care, oncology, imaging, minimally invasive procedures, and translational medicine.
