a2z Radiology AI Secures $4.5M Seed Funding to Advance Comprehensive CT Interpretation

a2z Radiology AI has closed a USD 4.5 million seed round led by Khosla Ventures and SeaX Ventures, marking a significant step toward commercial deployment of its FDA-cleared a2z-Unified-Triage system. The company plans to use the funding to scale adoption of the platform and continue building AI tools designed for comprehensive CT interpretation. The new funding will also support partnerships with health systems, continued R&D, and preparation for commercial rollout in 2026.

The investment follows two recent milestones for the Boston-based startup. The first was FDA clearance for a2z-Unified-Triage, which is the first system in the U.S. that can simultaneously triage seven urgent conditions on abdomen–pelvis CT scans. The second was the company’s debut at RSNA 2025, where it presented the first prospective study evaluating AI-assisted preliminary report drafting for abdomen–pelvis CT.

In that study, AI support reduced reporting time by 17.8 percent, raised radiologist confidence by 14.8 percent, and lowered mental demand by 22.4 percent. The findings also showed improved detection of abnormalities without increasing false positives, offering early evidence that comprehensive AI could enhance both diagnostic accuracy and workflow efficiency. These results help address longstanding questions about the real-world clinical value of radiology AI.

Investors highlighted the potential impact of a2z’s approach. “Radiology is one of the areas that will benefit the most from AI, ensuring no disease goes undetected,” said Vinod Khosla of Khosla Ventures. “While others focus on single conditions, a2z is able to evaluate imaging for a broad range of issues, bringing us closer to the comprehensive capabilities of a real-life radiologist.” Dr. Kid Parchariyanon, Founder and Managing Partner at SeaX Ventures, added that delays in radiology can slow patient care, noting that the company’s technology “brings expert-level support directly to clinicians.”

Rising imaging volumes continue to strain radiology services, especially in high-demand areas like abdomen–pelvis CT, which accounts for more than 20 million scans annually in the U.S. a2z aims to address this gap with systems designed to evaluate studies holistically, mirroring how radiologists review cases. “The response at RSNA validated what we’ve been building—AI that considers everything from A to Z in each study,” said Pranav Rajpurkar, PhD, co-founder of a2z Radiology AI and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. CEO Samir Rajpurkar added that the company is working toward “comprehensive interpretation of complex imaging studies at a level that simply hasn’t existed before.”
